The brain of the burner: Siemens for Nordic, marine and offshore projects

A burner is not just a pump, a nozzle and a flame — it is also the order in which everything happens. First the pre-purge that clears the combustion chamber, then ignition, then a flame that must be detected within a fraction of a second — and a safe lockout if anything is wrong. That order is exactly what the Siemens burner control supervises. If something goes wrong, the burner shuts down safely — rather than continuing to feed fuel towards a flame that never lit.

Siemens covers the whole span. The LMV5 combines burner management, flame supervision and air-fuel ratio control in one system, and with O₂ trim the combustion is continuously adjusted for maximum efficiency and minimum emissions. The LMV3 does the equivalent for smaller plant, while the classic LME, LFL and LGB control boxes sit in a very large base of burners — which is exactly why the right spare part matters so much. The flame detector is chosen to match fuel and flame: QRA for UV, QRB as a photocell, QRI for infrared. The SQM actuators keep air and fuel in the exact ratio by positioning dampers and valves precisely.

For Nordic, marine and offshore projects, Siemens is a question of safety and efficiency at once. The right control box and the right flame detector keep the burner reliable and energy-efficient — and often make it possible to modernise a working burner instead of replacing the entire plant. That holds ashore and at sea alike: in marine and offshore installations, with their own rulebook and the SECA zones of the North Sea and the Baltic, dependable burner management and flame supervision are simply a precondition. And because the controls are fuel-independent, they follow the transition to renewable fuels such as HVO — a point that only gains weight as off-grid heating moves towards renewable liquid fuels on both sides of the North Sea.

At Arne Nielsen A/S we carry Siemens as spares for the large installed base of burners in industry, process and heat production. Want to know which control box, flame detector or actuator fits your burner? Write to us at info@arnenielsen.dk — we will identify the exact model from the catalogue together.
