Many oil boilers run all summer just to keep the hot water cylinder warm. That means frequent short burner starts, unnecessary wear and a high cost per litre of hot water. With Ferroli’s new heat pump water heater AquaOpti, the boiler can take a summer holiday while the heat pump makes hot water from the air.
The most expensive hot water in the house
A boiler is built to heat an entire house. In summer it only has to make hot water. The burner starts and stops many times a day, the boiler uses energy just to keep itself warm, and the nozzle, ignition and pump wear out without much heat being needed. Every oil burner service engineer knows it: summer operation is expensive and hard on the system.
AquaOpti is a heat pump that only makes domestic hot water. It takes heat from the air and heats water to 62 °C without an immersion heater at outdoor temperatures from −10 to +43 °C. From spring to autumn it can therefore handle the hot water on its own, so the boiler can be switched off.
Hybrid in practice: boiler in winter, heat pump in summer
It is a simple way to take a step in the green transition without replacing the whole heating system:
- The boiler stays. The oil or gas boiler provides space heating in the heating season, as it always has.
- AquaOpti takes the hot water. All year round, or in the summer half of the year when the boiler can be switched off.
- Less wear on the burner. Fewer short starts mean longer life for the nozzle, ignition electrodes, pump and control box.
- Ready for the next step. When the boiler is one day replaced by an air-to-air or air-to-water heat pump, the hot water is already sorted.
If the house has solar panels, AquaOpti can use the power from the roof, so the sun heats the water too.

Up to 8 floor-standing models can be connected in cascade. That makes AquaOpti interesting for sports halls, campsites, institutions and small businesses too.
